Dear Readers of the Journal of Pharmaceutical Innovation.

I have been remiss about penning editorials in the past few months due to some personal issues I had to attend to. I intend to be more on task in the future, starting with the latest issue of the journal. We are well on our way regarding CAP publishing and moving the journal to six issues per year. The number of manuscripts crossing my desk has not diminished in the least and has increased, keeping me and my editors busy. This trend attests to the growing interest in the journal. Keep those manuscripts coming! I am also gratified by the number of readers who have written to me requesting to be a reviewer for the Journal of Pharmaceutical Innovation. For those of you who wish to be considered in the future please forward me your current CV along with a list of key words that describe your interests and expertise. This will help me, and my editors, forward the appropriate manuscripts to you for review.

In many of my past editorials, I have highlighted some aspects of the pharmaceutical industry that are seeing attention in the various pharmaceutical magazines as well as the online forums Fierce Pharma and Fierce Biotech. Last Spring, I highlighted the increase in the manufacturing of parenteral products due to the COVID pandemic and the increase in the number of biologics products being developed and commercialized. One year later I can state that the interest in this area has not waned. Indeed, I was invited to speak at the Advanced Chemistry Congress in Amsterdam, Netherlands this past March with the presentation “The Surge in Aseptic Processing” I could not fly there due to my situation but delivered it to the organizers who presented on my behalf. I will reprise this talk at the Europharm24 conference in Edinburgh, Scotland in August. There are many advances in this area. I recently received a manuscript where the authors describe the use of robotics to reduce manual interventions. There are also considerable press releases from the various Contract Manufacturing Organizations (CMOs) highlighting their expansion efforts in aseptic manufacturing. Perhaps the journal can devote an issue to parenteral manufacturing in the future.

The current issue of the Journal of Pharmaceutical Innovation contains many cutting-edge presentations. As I read through the list of manuscripts slated for publication in the June issue, I am struck by the common theme of enhancing bioavailability for poorly soluble drugs. Approaches such as the use of nanoparticles, gastro-retentive delivery, and emulsion technology are all included in this issue. I hope you will find the papers in this issue inspiring to your research and development work.

As always, I appreciate your support of the journal and continue to welcome new ideas and insights. Feel free to contact me at the email address given below.
