Summary
The FUEN is an independent union of organisations of national minorities in Europe, which was established in 1949 in Versailles/France. Today, the FUEN comprises 84 member organisations from 32 states. According to its statutes, the FUEN serves the ethnic groups in Europe and pursues the goal of preserving their national identity, their language, culture and history. It works towards a neighbourly, peaceful coexistence of majority and minority in one state or region. The FUEN has become a respected discussion partner for governments and parliaments in many states of Europe and in European and international institutions (European Union, Council of Europe, OSCE and United Nations) through its consistent adherence to democracy and human rights.
