Abstract
Xyris ambigua is a widespread, frequent, fire-dependent, and ecologically important species of savannas and open pinelands in southeastern U.S.A., Central America, and Cuba. Despite a prior neotypification and claims that the type of X. ambigua had been destroyed, we located five syntypes, which supersede the neotypification. As lectotype, we designate one of the syntypes, MO accession 3178384. This lectotypification maintains the current taxonomic concept of X. ambigua.
