Abstract

The bonding behavior of reinforcing bars embedded in Ultra-high Strength Concrete (UHSC) with steel fibers is discussed. Ten steel-fiber-reinforced UHSC specimens including three UHSC beams and seven lap-spliced UHSC beams were fabricated to investigate the bonding behavior. The compressive strengths of these specimens ranged from 130 to 150 MPa along with volume of steel fibers from 0 to 2%. The tensile behavior enhanced by different amounts of steel fibers was also compared using small-scale bending tests. In the UHSC beam tests, considerable bonding strength was identified in that the specimen with a lap-splice length of 10 db exhibited flexural responses equivalent to those from the specimen without lap splices. In addition, the ductile failure was ensured when a moderate amount of steel fibers was incorporated by compensating the brittleness of UHSC. These experimental results indicate that remarkably short splice length is applicable to the UHSC structure by incorporating sufficient amount of steel fibers.
