The abstract section was inadvertently omitted from the original article. The abstract is stated below.

“Treating to target” is a rapidly emerging paradigm for the management of patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). In this article, we summarize the evidence supporting this approach to the treatment of RA and describe the benefits of using a quantitative composite measure as the therapeutic target. We outline the ongoing international Treat to Target Initiative and discuss practical issues related to adopting this therapeutic strategy in clinical practice.
