Abstract

The prevalence of dementia is rising as China experiences an accelerated rate of population aging. While developed countries in the West have formed relatively consumer-based long-term care models for senile dementia patients, China remains in the exploratory phase in forming a long-term care model based on its own culture. We argue that China should build an indigenous “family-based, community-oriented, and social worker-supported” (three-pronged) dementia care model.
