Abstract

This essay reflects on the efforts of professional associations to achieve a more inclusive profession and academy. It examines the adequacy of programs designed to increase the number of sociologists of color, and the challenges experienced by the American Sociological Association and the Pacific Sociological Association in supporting programs aimed at systemic barriers to diversity.
