The NNF: Clinical Protocols in Perinatology by the National Neonatology Forum provides a new perinatal approach to improve newborn health outcomes. It is a collaborative effort by neonatologists and obstetricians with both perspectives on each chapter.

The 51 chapters in the book categorized into 7 appropriate sections cover the most important and clinically relevant topics in perinatology. Each chapter is structured well into introduction, objectives, core topic, summary, and suggested reading. The topics covered are comprehensive and practically oriented, and the presentation is very user-friendly with lucid flowcharts, bulleted points, and clear pictures. The infographics are very well done and need special appreciation. The highlight of each chapter is the summary as “Chapter at a Glance” and “Key Points” provided at the end of the chapter. These are succinct and provide the essence of the chapter. The Indian viewpoint expressed in the chapters add value to the book in the subcontinent.

Two sections—Fetal Disorders and Congenital Infections—are particularly appealing. These detail the anomalies of each system and common infections, respectively. Other desirable topics which could have been of interest are prevention and management of Rh isoimmunization, newborn screening, antenatal counseling for breastfeeding, kangaroo mother care, and neonatal transport. The book will serve as a ready reckoner for counseling and management. It will be equally beneficial to resident doctors, nurses, family physicians, and obstetric and pediatric specialists. This joint effort of obstetricians and neonatologists is commendable and will contribute to the improvement of maternal and newborn health.
