Vitamin D Supplementation in Childhood – A Review of Guidelines: Correspondence

To the Editor: We read with interest the review article “Vitamin D Supplementation in Childhood – A Review of Guidelines” published in the recent issue of your esteemed journal and found it very useful [1]. This article presents an in-depth review of the existing guidelines for vitamin D supplementation, a recently explored/exploited supplement, however, there are certain points we would like to highlight which might bring more clarity on this issue and will be useful to the readers.

    Authors stated that there are no formal guidelines on vitamin D supplementation for Indian children, however, recently Indian Academy of Pediatrics (IAP) published guidelines for vitamin D supplementation and treatment in concordance with other international organizations [2]. IAP recommends supplementation of 400 IU of vitamin D upto 1 y of age, and 600 IU of vitamin D from 1 to 18 y for the prevention of rickets.
