Location determinants of high-tech manufacturing activities: a preliminary analysis

Abstract

The aim of this paper is to analyse the location determinants of high-tech firms. Our main data source is the Registry of Industrial Establishments of Catalonia (REIC), which has plant level micro data about the location of new manufacturing establishments. We use county (comarques) data in Catalonia. Results show that those new plants are positively influenced by firm density and the percentage of high-tech firms, while distance to main cities and the density of high-tech workforce have a negative influence.
