Abstract
Lung herniation refers to the protrusion of the lung through the chest wall, usually covered by skin or pleura. This has a more common and less dramatic presentation when compared to lung evisceration which is the extrusion of the lung outside the chest with neither pleural sac nor skin coverage. We describe our experience with lung evisceration and discuss the mechanisms and pathophysiology surrounding these presentations. A management approach to avoid morbidity and mortality is suggested.
