Synthesis of superheavy elements

Abstract

Synthesis of superheavy elements (SHE) being the foremost aim related to the study of superheavy elements, reactions for producing various isotopes of SHEs with Z = 118 are developed. For developing the reactions, we used concepts related to cluster decay. The driving potential minimum associated with each mass asymmetric split of an isotope is found, and its variation with cluster mass is studied. It has been found that, in addition to the general pattern of consecutive minimum, termed cold valley, and maximum, in the driving potential minima of an isotope, there are local regions having comparatively lower values of driving potential minima, which have their own least values of driving potential minima. The reactions associated with such least values are presented as probable reactions, the order of probability being such that the smaller the least value, the larger the probability, for the production of isotopes. One of the reactions elicited in this manner for isotope 294118 is the reaction of the recognised production of Z = 118.
