Case 1

A 65-year-old female was referred to our office for endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR) of an esophageal granular cell tumor (GCT), found on recent esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD) 2 months prior. The lesion was described as a white, hard nodule. She was experiencing symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), abdominal bloating, and a globus sensation for which she was taking twice-a-day proton pump inhibitor (PPI). She denied weight loss and dysphagia. She had a past medical history of anxiety, colon polyp, diverticulosis, and was currently a smoker. She recently had an increase in severity of her GERD symptoms, which warranted an EGD from the referring physician. Initial EGD found a single medium-sized nodule 37 cm from the incisors. Cold forceps biopsy was performed, and pathologic analysis showed a benign GCT, with S100 immunostain positivity. Figure 1depicts the appearance of the GCT in situ on EGD. The yellow-white, fleshy characteristics of...
