Isolated cotton-wool spot in a patient with hepatitis C

Abstract

A 56-year-old woman with hepatitis C virus infection was incidentally found to have an isolated cotton-wool spot. Full investigation failed to disclose a known cause of the cotton-wool spot. Consideration of hepatitis C virus in the differential diagnosis of a cotton-wool spot is important so that early diagnosis can allow for prompt treatment and for counseling patients and their contacts.
