Abstract
The editors of the Journal have asked us to review the background process to the Sixth Report of the Joint National Committee on Prevention, Detection, Evaluation, and Treatment of High Blood Pressure (JNC VI) [1], reflect on criticism, indicate where important changes occurred compared with its predecessor, and predict the purpose and content of the subsequent report.
