State-of-the-art CT colonography: Update on technique and performance

Abstract

CT colonography, also called virtual colonoscopy, was introduced about a decade ago, has made great progress over the years, and is becoming more popular. With the advent of CT scanners and computer software, the examination is performed more quickly and with less patient radiation exposure providing the radiologist with data that allow for accurate polyp detection using both two-and three-dimensional imaging. In this article we will review the technical basics of CT colonography, its current indications, and performance.
