Résumé
Charles S. Peirce n’est pas connu ni reconnu comme un philosophe social. Pourtant une lecture attentive des textes pragmaticistes montre que les considérations de théorie sociale et politique ne sont pas absentes de la pensée du philosophe américain. L’article met en avant certains développements relatifs à la critique de l’individu, à la notion de communauté et aux institutions, et tente de surmonter les difficultés philologiques pour fournir une interprétation cohérente.
Abstract
Charles S. Peirce is neither known nor recognized as a social philosopher. Nevertheless, a careful reading of pragmaticist texts reveals that considerations of social and political theory are not absent from the American philosopher’s reasoning. This article highlights certain deliberations regarding the critique of the individual as well as the notion of community and social institutions. It thereby attempts to surmount the philological difficulties and provide a coherent interpretation.
Zusammenfassung
Charles S. Peirce ist als Sozialphilosoph weder bekannt noch anerkannt. Gleichwohl zeigt die aufmerksame Lektüre pragmatizistischer Texte, dass in seinem Denken auch sozialtheoretische Betrachtungen und solche der politischen Theorie nicht fehlen. Der Artikel richtet das Augenmerk auf einige Überlegungen hinsichtlich der Kritik des Individuums, des Begriffs der Gemeinschaft und der Institutionen. Dabei wird versucht, die philologischen Hürden zu überwinden und eine kohärente Interpretation zu liefern.
