Abstract

This is a report on a video-aided ethnographic investigation which targets expert knowledge in a hospital setting. Since such knowledge calls for gathering a qualitative sort of data, both intensive and situated, this paper offers an examination of the methodological implications of this investigation. Work environment digital video and computer-mediated observations with Transana® are adequate tools for the exploration of paramount concepts in the cognitive study of expertise, found in communicative sequences and embodied practices of situated agents.

Résumé

Cet article est un compte rendu méthodologique d’une enquête ethnographique audiovisuelle concernant l’expertise dans un entourage hospitalier. Étant audiovisuelle concernant l’expertise dans un entourage hospitalier. Étant ethnodonné le besoin de partir de donnés qualitatives, intensives et situées, nous examinons les implications des principaux points conflictuels du point de vue méthodologique, par le processus d’entrée, la codification et l’analyse des séquences communicatives. L’observation audiovisuelle et numérique par le programme Transana® convient à convient à l’exploration de concepts clés dans l’étude cognitive de l’expertise.

Zusammenfassung

Dieser Beitrag ist ein methodologischer Erfahrungsbericht über eine audiovisuelle Ethnographiestudie, die sich mit Expertenwissen von medizinischem Personal beschäftigt. Angesichts der Notwendigkeit, umfangreiche und kontextualisierte qualitative Daten zu Grunde zu legen, untersuchen wir die wichtigsten methodologischen Implikationen, die mit dem Eintritt ins Forschungsfeld sowie mit der Kodierung und der Analyse der Gesprächssequenzen einhergehen. Die audiovisuelle und digitale Datenerfassung mit Hilfe des Programms Transana® erweist sich als geeignete Methode, um erweist sich als geeignete Methode, um Schlüsselkonzepte der kognitiven Erforschung von Expertenwissen zu untersuchen.

Resumen

Este artículo constituye un ensayo metodológico sobre una etnografía audiovisual del trabajo experto en un entorno hospitalario. Dado que parte necesariamente de datos cualitativos, tanto intensivos como situados, examinaremos las implicaciones de los principales puntos conflictivos desde el punto de vista metodológico, exponiendo el proceso de entrada, la codificación y el análisis de las secuencias comunicativas. La observación audiovisual y digital mediante el programa Transana® resultan ser adecuadas para la resultan ser adecuadas para la exploración de conceptos clave para el estudio cognitivo del conocimiento experto.
