Zusammenfassung
Mineral-Trioxid-Aggregat (MTA) und Biodentin können – ebenso wie der verwandte Baustoff Portlandzement – als Kalziumsilikatzement bezeichnet werden. Bei der Abbindereaktion nach Anmischen mit Wasser wird Kalziumhydroxid freigesetzt. Diese Zemente zeichnen sich daher durch eine hohe Biokompatibilität und Bioaktivität aus. Sie werden nicht resorbiert, sind bakteriendicht, antibakteriell wirksam und induzieren die Bildung von Hartgewebe, sowohl an der Pulpa als auch im Bereich des Knochens. Kalziumsilikatzemente können daher sowohl zur Vitalerhaltung der Pulpa (Förderung der Tertiärdentinbildung) beitragen als auch als endodontischer Reparaturzement dienen, z. B. zur Deckung von Perforationen der Wurzelkanalwand oder des Pulpakammerbodens zur Versiegelung resorptionsbedingter Defekte sowie von internen und externen Resorptionen oder zur Apexifikation und als retrograder Verschluss des Wurzelkanals nach Wurzelspitzenresektion. Nachteilig an Kalziumsilikatzementen ist die z. T. schwierige Verarbeitung und lange Abbindezeit der Materialien sowie der vergleichsweise hohe Preis.
