Abstract

Inelastic neutron scattering measures the dynamical processes in materials, as opposed to spatial arrangements of atoms. A neutron diffraction pattern is obtained from measurements of the momentum transfer between the neutron and the sample. Inelastic neutron scattering includes the additional dimension of energy. This paper explains concepts, describes instrumentation, and gives a few materials applications for inelastic neutron scattering.
