Abstract
This article provides an overview of the current literature on the relationships between media consumption and sleep in children and adolescents. To date, the majority of studies are cross-sectional studies reporting a significant negative correlation between media consumption and the quality of sleep. Interventional studies further investigating the cause–effect chain are rare. Potential reasons and consequences of sleep disruptions are reviewed and discussed. Given the high prevalence of media consumption in children and adolescents, future studies are needed to increase awareness in parents and society at large and to provide advice and guidance on acceptable amounts of media consumption.
