Abstract
Biomedical electronic devices integrated with specific human body parts have attracted considerable attention because they present significant breakthroughs to solve various clinical challenges. Recent innovations in soft nanomaterial assemblies, novel device design strategies, and clinically relevant system-level applications have accelerated the rapid growth in this research field. In particular, novel biomedical functionalities, such as extraordinary sensitivity in diagnosis and outstanding therapy performance, could be achieved through wearable, implantable, and minimally invasive bioelectronics. Monolithic integration of functional nanomaterial assemblies with flexible and stretchable device platforms has enabled these breakthroughs. This review first presents a brief history and then provides more details of recent advancements in nanomaterial assemblies and their applications to soft bioelectronics. Important technological advances to solve unmet clinical challenges are presented by leveraging soft bioelectronics toward the next-generation medical systems.

Biography
Dae-Hyeong Kim obtained B.S. and M.S. degree in Chemical Engineering from Seoul National University, Korea, in 2000 and 2002, respectively. He received Ph. D. degree in Materials Science and Engineering from University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign in 2009. From 2009 to 2011, he was a post-doctoral research associate at University of Illinois. He joined Seoul National University in 2011 and is currently an associate professor in the School of Chemical and Biological Engineering of Seoul National University. He has published more than 75 papers and 25 international and domestic patents. He has been recognized with several awards including George Smith Award (2009), MRS Graduate Student Award (2009), Green Photonics Award (2011), TR 35 award (2011), Hong Jin-ki Creative Award (2015), and SCEJ Award (2016).
Biography
Tae-Ho Kim is currently a principal researcher in the Inorganic Material Laboratory at the Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology (SAIT). He received his B.S. and M.S. degree in chemical engineering from Hanyang University in 2000 and 2002, respectively, and his Ph.D. degree in chemical and biomolecular engineering from Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) in 2006. From 2006 to 2008, he joined John Rogers’ group at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign as a postdoctoral researcher. Since 2008, he has been working on optoelectronic and electronic devices using printable nanomaterials including quantum dots at SAIT. He has published more than 35 papers and 30 international patents. He has been recognized with several awards including Samsung Best Paper Gold Award (2013), Samsung Innovation Award (2011), Model Employee Award (2011), Samsung Best Paper Award (2010), IDW Best Paper Award (2010), Annual Patent Award (2015), and George Smith Award (2009).
