Small Steps into the Past: Archaeology for Young Children at Dolenjska Museum, Novo Mesto, Slovenia

Abstract

This paper describes an educational program for children aged 3–6 with detailed studies of one workshop, the “Archaeological sandbox,” and one project, the “Pedenjresearcher.” Each year several hundred preschool children visit archaeological exhibitions, with specially designed programs, which the children take seriously and enjoy. This experience is a positive foundation for future visits to Dolenjska Museum.

Résumé

Cet article décrit un programme éducatif pour les enfants d’âge préscolaire, avec des études détaillées d’un atelier, le “bac à sable”, et un projet, le “Pedenjresearcher”. Chaque année, des centaines d’enfants d’âge préscolaire visitent les expositions archéologiques, avec des programmes spécialement conçus que ces enfants prennent au sérieux et apprécient. Leur expérience est une base positive pour les futures visites de musées

Resumen

Este artículo describe un programa educativo para niños en edad preescolar, con estudios detallados de un taller, la “caja de arena”, y un proyecto, el “Pedenjresearcher”. Cada año, cientos de preescolares visitan exposiciones arqueológicas, con programas especialmente diseñados, que estos niños toman en serio y disfrutan. Su experiencia es una base positiva para futuras visitas a museos.
