Abstract

Two new and seven known species of the genus Belondira Thorne, 1939 are described and illustrated based on the specimens collected from several localities of Western Ghats of India. Belondira spicularis sp. n. is characterized by having 0.76–1.0 mm long body; cephalic sclerotization very weak; odontostyle 3 µm long; expanded part of the pharynx occupying about 34–38% of neck length; anterior uterine sac 1.3–1.9 times the mid-body diameter long; spicules comparatively robust, 21–23 µm long; two ventromedian supplements and tail slightly clavate to obtusely rounded. B. sclerocephalus sp. n. is characterized by having 1.7–2.0 mm long body; cephalic framework heavily sclerotized; odontostyle robust, 6–7 µm long; pharyngeal expansion large, about 54–60% of neck length; vulva a large pore; anterior uterine sac very small, 0.4–0.6 times the corresponding body diameter long and tail short, hemispheroid. B. apitica, B. clavicauda, B. nepalensis, B. paraclava, B. murtazai, B. tumicauda and B. provulva are redescribed based on specimens collected from several localities of Western Ghats. B. clavicauda and B. tumicauda are reported here for the first time from India, and also males are reported for the first time for B. tumicauda. A diagnostic key to the identification of its valid species is provided.
