Key points

Reversal of a vertical banded gastroplasty (VBG) requires a much more complex and intensive surgical process. Conversion from VBG to Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) remains the procedure of choice. Resecting the remnant stomach during conversion prevents the formation of mucocele.
