Abstract
The national Internet survey “Dukan and after?” was conducted on 4,761 volunteers who follow a restrictive hyperprotein diet and analysed their weight patterns in the short, medium and long term. Among subjects who were followed up for at least two years, 75% said they had finally regained lost weight. Furthermore, the failure of the diet causes a feeling of guilt in 60% of people. The restrictive hyperprotein diet does not seem different from other restrictive diets. In view of uncertainties about the metabolic effects of long-term weight changes, these results require further investigation.
