Zusammenfassung

Hintergrund

Abstract

Background

Arthrofibrosis of the elbow is a common complication of elbow injuries and involves limitations in upper limb functionality. This is a review paper on the current state of research about elbow arthrofibrosis.

Methods

Review of the current literature on the subject; analysis of etiological factors.

Results

The exact pathogenesis of arthrofibrosis is still unclear. There are indications of triggering mechanisms at the cellular level. Cytokines affect local inflammatory responses, leading to a change in the extracellular matrix of myofibroblasts. However, the mechanisms are not yet fully understood.

Conclusion

Individual mechanisms give reason to hope that arthrofibrosis of the elbow could be better understood and treated with drugs in the future. Further basic research in this area is necessary.
