Abstract

A penta-band circular polarized ultra-wideband (PBCP-UWB) antenna design is proposed for UWB applications. The PBCP-UWB structure comprises a circular radiator with L-shaped slits which is fed by a microstrip feed line. The proposed antenna is fabricated on an FR4 substrate. Further, the performance of the PBCP-UWB antenna is analyzed based on different parameters including impedance-matching bandwidth, fractional axial ratio, and radiation efficiency. The proposed antenna provides a fractional axial ratio bandwidth of 17.75% (3.81–4.53 GHz), 0.2% (6.91–7.05 GHz), 3.9% (9.29–9.66 GHz), 0.744% (10.71–10.79 GHz), and 1.671% (18.40–18.71 GHz), while its fractional impedance-matching bandwidth is 170%. The major advantage of the proposed PBCP-UWB antenna is its simplicity of design which results in good radiation efficiency. The measurement results for the fabricated antenna are found to be similar to those of the simulations.
