Abstract
Optimizing the properties of CdTe improves the performance of the CdTe based solar cells such as the CdS/CdTe solar cell. This optimization can be performed by choosing the suitable deposition technique and the deposition parameters. In this work the influence of the deposition temperature on the structural, compositional, morphological, and optical properties of thermally evaporated CdTe thin films were investigated. X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy supported by x-ray energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), and UV-vis spectroscopy were used for exploring the effect of deposition temperature on the films. XRD diffractograms had grown with deposition temperature, which means improvement of the crystallinity of the films. Transmittance, extinction coefficient, and refractive index didn’t show monotonic relations with deposition temperature. The bandgap was approximately not affected by deposition temperature. From the EDS analysis the composition of the films shows nearly stoichiometric ratios of Cd and Te.
