Abstract

The role of reagent transfer through a vapor phase in the solid-state synthesis of strontium nitridoaluminosilicates at a temperature > 1650°C was studied. The synthesis was carried out in a mixture of macrocrystalline Sr3N2 powder (10–20 μm) and nanosized Si3N4 powder (40–100 nm) in order to minimize the contact interaction between Sr3N2 and Si3N4. It was established that mass transfer under these conditions occurred as a result of the sublimation of Sr3N2 followed by the interaction of the resulting vapor with Si3N4 crystals.
