Abstract
Electrical and thermal properties of a newly synthesized ferroelectric liquid crystal dodecyl{4-(3-(4-hippuratoxy phenyl)–2–choloro-1-oxy-propanyl) benzoate have been investigated to determine its order parameters such as spontaneous polarization, response times. These parameters are important from the commercial viability perspective of the liquid crystal for its utility in display device applications. The transition temperatures obtained from various techniques, namely, optical polarizing microscopic studies, temperature variation of the capacitance, spontaneous polarization, and tilt angle, concurred with one another. The power law fit is performed on the results of temperature variation of spontaneous polarization and tilt angle to correlate the experimental data with that of the theoretical predictions. The magnitude of these two order parameters along with ferroelectric thermal range govern the utility of the liquid crystal for display applications.
