This symposium was held under the sponsorship of the ASM International Phase Transformations Committee during the simultaneous TMS Fall 2000 Meeting and the ASM International Materials Solutions Conference and Exhibitions 2000 at the Riverfront Regal Hotel, St. Louis, MO. The General Discussion session of this symposium (also called “MT 2000”) was held during the morning of Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2000. This session was recorded, transcribed, and edited by the symposium organizers and then by the individual discussers prior to submission to Metallurgical and Materials Transactions A.
