Résumé
Introduction
Discussion
Abstract
Introduction
There are currently no specific guidelines for the implementation of therapeutic education programmes (TEP) for patients with low back pain. The aim of this project is to define the needs of professional caregivers for the implementation or development of TE programmes for patients with chronic low back pain, who will be involved in the development of this guide.
Method
A qualitative study using discussion groups was carried out. Data was gathered and structured from verbatim transcripts that were analysed openly. The editing of results required two stages of coding after being re-transcribed by an independent observer.
Results
Three multidisciplinary teams participated in this project and confirmed the benefit of this guide for professional caregivers. Four main themes have been developed: better understanding of what TEP is, organising a TE programme, assessing a programme, and TEP stakeholders. For each of these themes, a general section on TEP and another section more specific to lower back pain were created, allowing the needs of professional caregivers to be clearly defined and structured.
Discussion
TEP is a dynamic process, focused on the patient and carried out by a team. This qualitative study enabled the identification of what professionals involved in treating patients with chronic low back pain are expecting. This project will enable a guide, created by healthcare professionals for healthcare professionals, to be developed.
