Abstract
The MIPO technique, i.e. a minimally invasive plate osteosynthesis without opening the fracture site, is particularly indicated for shaft fractures of the leg, as they are often associated with soft tissue damages. After reduction, the plate can be inserted by sliding it on the medial surface of the tibia (the most used and simplest technique), or on the lateral one. The MIPO technique can be performed with any plate, although the use of the so-called preshaped “internal fixators” has made surgery much easier.
