Sommario

The information in the literature on vascular and nerve injuries related to leg and ankle orthopedic surgery are scarce and poorly documented. In order to avoid such injuries, it is essential for the orthopedic surgeon to have a thorough knowledge of anatomy, location, course and relationships that the main nerves and vascular formations have with contiguous structures. In this paper the vascular and nerve injuries associated with various surgical accesses and the various methods of fixation of fractures of the leg and ankle are discussed.
