Abstract

The majority of the different forms of shoulder instability may be treated with arthroscopic techniques. Generally, outcomes are similar to those obtained using open procedures. The latter still represent the first surgical choice for instabilities associated to HAGL lesion, humeral head engaging and glenoid bone loss. The aim of this paper is to describe historical capsuloplasty techniques, generally used during the Eighties and Nineties, that guaranteed satisfactory results (except for the decrease in external rotation of which they were responsible for) and that were progressively substituted by arthroscopic procedures.
