The volume Trabajadoras en la sombra: dimensiones del servicio doméstico latinoamericano (English translation: Workers in the Shade: Dimension of domestic service in Latin America) edited by Séverine Durin, María Eugenia de la O y Santiago Bastos, published in Casa Chato 2014, follows a long tradition in Latin American scholarship on the analysis of reproductive labour, and in particular domestic work. This volume connects with other work such as Elsa Chaney and Maria Garcia Castro (1993) or Valeria Esquivel, Eleonor Faur and Elizabeth Jelin (2012) and Maria Suely Kofes (2001), and delves into the analysis of the employment of domestic/care workers in private households. It focuses on the questions of employment relations, social distinction, state regulation, migration, ideologies of maternity, social hierarchies, Au-Pairs, domestic workers’ agency and resistance.
