Coach the brand!? A review of coaching within the area of brand consulting

Zusammenfassung

Die Autorin untersucht, wie Coaching als prozessorientierte Beratungsform Markenberatung verbessern kann und welche Anwendung Coaching aktuell findet. Neben einer Internetrecherche wurden 40 Agenturvertreter befragt. Es zeigt sich, dass Brand- bzw. Markencoaching ein Angebot von unabhängigen Marken- und Kommunikationsberatern mit Zusatzqualifikation zum Coach darstellen. In größeren Agenturen gibt es kaum systematische Coaching-Angebote, und der Begriff Brand-Coaching wird kritisch bewertet. Als Gattungsbegriff wird Coaching wertschätzend genutzt, wenn Format, Prozessorientierung oder Beraterrolle dem klassischen Coaching gleichen.

Abstract

The author examines to what extent coaching can enhance brand consulting and how coaching is currently applied. An internet research was complemented with an online survey of 40 agency representatives about the practice of coaching. It appears, that brand coaching predominantly is an offer of independent brand and communications consultants with additional coaching qualification. Larger agencies rarely offer systematic coaching and generally speaking the term brand coaching is valued critically. Coaching is used as generic term – with great appreciation – whenever setting, process orientation or consultant’s role resembles traditional coaching.
