Abstract
The pelvic diaphragm divides the rectovaginal wall into two parts: the rectovaginal septum and the anovaginal wall. The rectovaginal septum is made of connective tissue and seems to play a trophic role for both the vaginal and rectal walls. The anovaginal wall is much thicker and mainly contains the perineal body and anal sphincter.
