Solitary Plexiform Neurofibroma of the Hepatic Artery

A 54-year-old male patient presented with 3-month history of intermittent upper abdominal pain and weight loss of 3 kg, but no fever, diarrhea, jaundice, nausea, or vomiting. Physical examination revealed a soft, non-tender abdomen without palpable mass, and there were findings of neither café-au-lait spots nor cutaneous nodules. His family history was negative for genetic and malignant diseases. Laboratory results showed mildly elevated total and direct bilirubin levels (1.6 and 0.6 mg/dl, respectively), whereas transaminases, peripheral blood counts, and serum tumor markers were all within normal range. Contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CT) scans demonstrated a 3.6 × 1.7-cm homogeneous low-attenuation mass at the porta hepatis with irregular infiltrative margins but no significant enhancement, encasing, and spreading along the hepatic artery (Fig.  1a, b).
