Abstract

It is well known that rational design of advanced sulfur host materials could facilitate the electronic and lithium-ion transport and inhibit the polysulfide shuttle effect during the cycles in the lithium-sulfur batteries. Various host materials have been reported and designed as sulfur host materials in the lithium-sulfur batteries. Yet it still faced challenge when employed widely for high-performance lithium-sulfur batteries. Therefore, new type of sulfur host materials must be developed for the high electrochemical performance lithium-sulfur batteries. Herein, we prepared nitrogen-doped porous carbon via facile method and developed it as advanced sulfur host materials in the lithium-sulfur batteries. The unique porous structure could provide enough interior space for accommodating element sulfur and effectively inhibit the polysulfide dissolution at the same time. Owing to these merits, the as-prepared nitrogen-doped porous carbon/S (NPC/S) composites exhibit outstanding electrochemical performance with high specific capacity of 1352 mA h g−1 at the current density of 0.1 C and superior cycling stability.
