Abstract

In this paper, a facile method was conducted to obtain LiFePO4/C coated by Ti2O3. Firstly, TiO2-coating LiFePO4/C was gained via a sol–gel process then TiO2 was reduced to Ti2O3 by KBH4 heated to 370 °C for 20 h. The phase of the composite was confirmed to be LiFePO4 and Ti2O3 by X-ray diffraction. It was observed through SEM and TEM images that spot-like Ti2O3 particles were homogeneously distributed on the surface of LiFePO4/C with a particle size of 5~10 nm. The electrochemical performance of Ti2O3-coating LiFePO4/C composite material presented an obvious improvement in both specific capacity and cycling stability. EIS result showed that the obtained coated sample possesses a much lower charge transfer resistance compared with that of LiFePO4/C raw material. The experiment proved that Ti2O3 coating could enhance the performance of LiFePO4/C cathode for lithium-ion batteries.
