Publication productivity of junior faulty and their advisors in German-speaking europe

Zusammenfassung

Dieser Beitrag untersucht auf der Grundlage einer Sekundärdatenerhebung, welche Faktoren die Publikationsproduktivität des BWL-Hochschullehrernachwuchses beeinflussen. Die Ergebnisse zeigen, dass die Publikationsproduktivität des Habilitationsbetreuers der wichtigste Einflussfaktor für die Publikationsproduktivität eines BWL-Nachwuchswissenschaftlers ist.

Weiterhin ist festzustellen, dass für nationale Veröffentlichungen in Fachzeitschriften insbesondere die Publikationsproduktivität des Nachwuchswissenschaftlers vor der Promotion ausschlaggebend ist, während für internationale Top-Publikationen der Besuch von hochwertigen Konferenzen sowie die Zugehörigkeit zu einer Universität der CHE-Reputations-Spitzengruppe signifikante Prädiktoren sind. Hinsichtlich des Publikations-outputs des Habilitationsbetreuers ist festzustellen, dass Lehrstuhlgröße insbesondere zu nationalen Publikationen in einem positiven Zusammenhang steht.

Summary

Based on a secondary data analysis we study the question which factors influence publication productivity of junior faculty researchers and their advisors. The results show that publication productivity of the advisor is the most important influence on the publication productivity of the junior researcher. We also find for junior researchers (i.e. Habilitanden, Juniorprofessors) that publication productivity prior to Ph.D. is a good predictor for publication productivity in national journals whereas attending important international conferences as well as association with a CHE-Top-Management-Faculty is important for publishing in international journals. Regarding the publication output of the advisor we find that number of employees is especially important for publishing in national journals.
