Zusammenfassung

Dieser Artikel beleuchtet die Besonderheiten sozialer Auswirkungen des Diabetes mellitus bei Kindern und Jugendlichen, sofern diese nicht bereits in anderen Beiträgen dieses Heftes angesprochen wurden. „Pädiatrische Aspekte“ umfasst dabei Säuglinge, Kleinkinder, Schulkinder und Jugendliche mit Diabetes mellitus sowie deren Eltern und engere Bezugspersonen. Entsprechend dem weiten Altersspektrum stellen sich die sozialen Auswirkungen ganz unterschiedlich dar. Dass die Herausforderungen, welche die Diabeteserkrankung darstellt, sich nach Alters- und Entwicklungsstadium des Kindes unterscheiden, soll im Folgenden dargestellt werden. Gedacht ist an eine Zielgruppe von Ärzten oder auch Diabetesberaterinnen, die primär mit erwachsenen Patienten und nur gelegentlich mit Kindern und Jugendlichen befasst ist.

Abstract

The current article examines the particular aspects of the social consequences of diabetes on children and adolescents, inasmuch as these have not already be discussed in other articles in this journal.“Pediatric aspects” include infants, small children, school-age children and adolescents with diabetes, as well as their parents and the other people with whom they are in close contact. Given the wide age spectrum, the social consequences can vary greatly. The present articles aims to illustrate the extent to which the challenges presented by diabetes differ according to age and level of development. Our intended target group comprises both physicians and diabetes counselors who usually deal with adult patients and are only rarely confronted with children and adolescents.
