Abstract
Inner amputations include complete resection of the metatarsal, tarsal or talus while preserving the toes and soft tissue. Many of these surgical techniques which were already practised at the end of the 19th century are almost forgotten nowadays. In diabetic foot syndrome, inner amputation is followed be marked soft tissue shrinkage, leading to a stable, functional and shortened foot, which can usually be fitted with orthopaedic shoes. Thus, the procedure constitutes a therapy option belonging in the repertoire of foot surgery for diabetes patients.
