Dr. Ning-Sun Yang is the Director and Distinguished Research Fellow of Agricultural Biotechnology Research Center, Academia Sinica, Chinese Taipei. He obtained his PhD from Biochemical Genetics Program, Michigan State University and followed a postdoctoral training at Roche Institute of Molecular Biology. He has been faculties at Michigan Comprehensive Cancer Center and University of Wisconsin Medical School before joining Academia Sinica in Chinese Taipei in 1997. Dr. Yang’s major academic achievements are associated with the invention and establishment of gene gun technology and its applications to transgenic research. He has contributed to molecular and cellular mechanism studies of cytokine (transgene) expression and the use of transgenic cytokines in cancer research. More recently, he established experimental study systems for evaluating the anti- or pro-inflammatory, immuno-modulatory activities and their anti-cancer effects of traditional Chinese herbal medicines or their derived phytocompounds. Dr. Yang’s research contributions were recognized internationally, and he was elected as a Fellow of AAAS (USA) in 2006.
