Zusammenfassung

Die Veränderung der Medizinlandschaft wird in den nächsten Jahren durch den demographischen Wandel mit einem überproportionalen Anstieg Hochbetagter an Dynamik gewinnen. Die Viszeralmedizin/Gastroenterologie ist von dieser unaufhaltsamen Entwicklung besonders betroffen, viele gastrointestinale Erkrankungen kommen im Alter häufiger vor. Um dieser Herausforderung aus ärztlicher Sicht gerecht zu werden, ist zunächst die Definition eines geriatrischen Patienten wichtig. Aufgrund der Komplexität geriatrischer Krankheitsbilder ist für die Diagnostik und eine effektive Therapie ein möglichst standardisiertes geriatrisches Assessment erforderlich.

Abstract

Changes in the medical landscape will continue to gain momentum in coming years due to demographic changes with a disproportionate increase in the number of very old individuals. Visceral medicine/gastroenterology is particularly affected by this inexorable development, as many gastrointestinal diseases occur more frequently in old age. To meet this challenge from a physician’s perspective, it is primarily important to clearly define a geriatric patient. Due to the complexity of geriatric clinical pictures, diagnosis and effective therapy require a geriatric assessment with the highest possible level of standardization.
