Abstract
Inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) have a current prevalence of approximately 0.4% in the population of Germany or approximately 320,000 patients and represent an economical problem which should not be underestimated. Initial results on the treatment situation of IBD patients in Germany on the basis of a survey in the specialized IBD group of the Professional Association of Gastroenterologists in private practice in Germany (bng) will be described. A main theme of the competence network IBD, which was founded to extend previous work carried out by the BMBF competence network, is an improvement of the horizontal and vertical networks of all practitioners active in the area of IBD in Germany. From June 2006 to June 2007 an on-line documentation was set up to collect data on treatment modalities in Germany and data from 1,134 IBD patients were documented. The preliminary results will be described, as the evaluation has not yet been completed. These results will form the basis for further measures to improve the treatment and nursing quality of IBD patients in Germany.
