The year in review: highlights of the Metabolomics Society in 2013

  • Mark R. Viant

As we approach the end of 2013, I would like to reflect on the considerable growth of the Metabolomics Society as well as its rapidly expanding portfolio of benefits to the members that it serves. During the past 12 months we have witnessed record attendance at the annual international conference, new international partnerships between the Society and national and regional metabolomics networks, an expansion of our publications as well as several new member awards schemes and, perhaps as a result of this activity, the number of members of the Metabolomics Society has reached an all time high. This has been achieved in part through the outstanding voluntary contributions of the Board of Directors, the members of the committees and task groups, and the Chair and local organising committee of Metabolomics 2013, to whom I am personally very grateful. This news section further describes these highlights from 2013 and hints at the expectations for 2014.
