Unbehandelt mündet die primär biliäre Zirrhose (PBC) in eine fortschreitende Leberschädigung und die Notwendigkeit einer Lebertransplantation. Dieses Schicksal lässt sich vielen Patienten durch Ursodesoxycholsäure ersparen. Wer auf die Gallensäure gut anspricht, hat sogar eine praktisch normale Lebenserwartung.
